Hi! I'm Brigitte Novalis.

Want to feel good?

DECEMBER NEWS

Hey Reader,

It’s cold outside in my part of the world. The ground is covered in snow. Birds are gathering at our bird feeders. Squirrels try to get their share.

The nights are long and dark. Time to light candles!

In another of my worlds, in the world where Anna and her family and friends live, there is summer. It is the time when Inara, the Mongolian Princess, arrives.

Do you want to take a look?

“They are here!” Benjamin shouted.

Anna, Martha, Henry, Benjamin and their animals ran down the hallway, down the stairs, down the next hallway and through the kitchen onto the terrace. The Lombardo family, including their animals, stood there with expectant faces. Carlotta held Inara by the hand.

Everyone was silent for a moment.

It seemed to Anna that time was stretching, as if the moment when Inara was really moving in with them was reluctant to become reality. As enthusiastically as Anna had helped prepare the room for Inara, as downcast she was now.

Maybe Inara would stay with them for many years. Maybe always. Then Anna would no longer be the only girl in the house, the little princess of the grandparents. Then there was another little girl. Bennie wanted to be Inara's friend. That was good, but then Bennie wouldn’t need Anna anymore. She became alternately hot and cold as these thoughts ran through her mind.

Everyone was still silent. Then Inara bowed to the Cameron family with folded hands and said, “Thank you for allowing me to stay with you.”

Martha ran up to her and hugged her. “You are welcome here, dear child,” she said with tears in her eyes.

Henry put his arm around Martha and Inara. “Welcome to the Cameron family, Inara,” he said in a solemn voice.

Benjamin pulled Inara by the sleeve and said, “I want to be your friend.”

The little girl took a few steps toward Anna, who was still standing on the edge of the terrace. She looked seriously at Anna with her black narrow eyes and asked her, “Do you want me too?”

Although Anna still felt a strong resistance to enormous changes, part of it melted at that moment.

“Oh, Inara,” she said, hugging the little girl. “Yes, I want you too.”
